The Type WSAC- auxiliary air walk-in fume hoods have been engineered to reduce the amount of costly conditioned air being exhausted from the room.

The large volume of air drawn from a room by a conventional walk-in fume hood places a great burden on the room’s air conditioning and heating systems and greatly reduces the efficiency, while increasing the operational cost, of these systems.

With the WSAC- auxiliary air walk-in fume hood, up to 70% of the air being exhausted is supplementary air -- air introduced from an outside source at the top of the hood and flows through the front of the hood. This supplementary air mingles with about 30% of the conditioned room air and sweeps the fumes and vapors to the rear exhaust slots within the hood.

The supplementary (auxiliary) air is discharged into the hood at a very low velocity in order to avoid high velocity air streams blasting at the front of the hood and into the chamber (which could be very uncomfortable to the hood operator). Also, high velocity air streams create turbulence inside the hood which reduces the efficient operation of the hood to an unsatisfactory condition.

The type WSAC Walk-In Smooth Air-Flow Air Conditioned fume hood is carefully engineered with the additional feature of an air foil surface which is curved to the air flow path, creating a smoother air flow pattern which can remove air effectively at a lower face velocity and using less room air than a standard or conventional walk-in fume hood.

The WSAC- walk-in fume hood is furnished with:

• The hood exterior is fabricated of 18 gauge, zinc-coated and bondarized steel with a chemical resistant enamel in a choice of our standard colors.
• The interior is made of 1/4" thick, special heat, solvent and reagent resistant composition stone that is treated with a chemical resistant, clear vinyl for added protection. (Additional hood liners are available upon request, including a white modified resin/fiberglass, fiberglass reinforced polyester (FRP), and white polypropylene.)
• The fume hood baffles have three adjustable air flow dampers at the top, center and bottom for adjustment to light or heavy gases.
• The interior of the hood is illuminated with a vapor-proof incandescent light fixture for added visibility.
• Two vertically rising front sashes, furnished with 1/4" thick, laminated safety glass glazing, are counter balanced with lead weights for fingertip movement. Sash stops are available, upon request, to further restrict the face opening of the hood.
