ACID FUME HOODS
Work with Perchloric Acid in the laboratory presents a constant
danger of explosion and many safety precautions must be taken
to insure the utmost safety for the laboratory personnel.
Proper care must be made in designing a perchloric acid
hood to maintain the maximum safety.
Fume hood interior material must be non-porous and inorganic,
such as stainless steel, and all to be seamless, continuously
welded with no spot welding anywhere.
A washdown system should be incorporated for periodic cleaning
of the interior of the hood. Baffles should be easily removed
to permit access for cleaning.
Ductwork with a washdown system should be short and straight
so that the interior can be visually inspected and washed
periodically.
The exhaust blower should be the induction type so that
no fumes will go through the fan or motor and so that no
dangerous fumes can deposit and no cleaning is necessary
(the dangerous task of cleaning is eliminated).

The Type PRSA- Perchloric
Acid smooth air-flow hood is designed with a seamless, smooth
interior, integral washdown system and induction type blower
and fan so that the inherent dangers related to the use of
perchloric acid are minimized.
- The interior of the hood is of Type 316 stainless steel with
all joints (sides, back, top, front and work surface) continuously
heliarc welded, ground smooth and polished into an integral,
one-piece interior chamber.
- There are no overlapping or spot welding or cemented joints
anywhere in the interior chamber.
- An integral, stainless steel perforated pipe washdown system
is factory installed at the top of the hood, behind the baffle,
for periodic cleaning.
- The counter top has an integral, stainless steel trough sink
at the rear for collection of the washdown water and drainage.
- Baffles are easily removable to permit access for cleaning.
- IN
ADDITION, THE TYPE PRSA FUME
HOOD is carefully engineered with air foil surfaces
curved to the air flow path; thereby creating a smoother
Air flow pattern which can remove air effectively at a
lower face velocity and using less room air than a standard
fume hood.
- The hood exterior is constructed of cold rolled steel with
an exterior finish of chemical resistant, baked enamel in a
color to match the base cabinet.
Remote control services, when required, can be located on both sides of the
vertical air foils with outlets on the inside of the hood.
- Removable access panels are provided on the exterior sides,
when requested, for plumbing and wiring connections.
- A 150-200 watt, explosion-proof incandescent light fixture
and switch are provided for maximum safety.
- A vertically sliding front sash has 1/4" thick, laminated
safety glass and is counter balanced with lead weights.
- The special induction type blower never needs cleaning because
the fumes do not pass over the fan or motor to leave deposits
(which are dangerous to remove and equally dangerous if allowed
to remain).
The PRSA Perchloric
Acid fume hood may be customized by adding any of the following
features:
- Service Fixtures - Remote control angle hose connections.
(Specify index required.)
- Electricals - Receptacles
- Motor starter
switch, explosion-proof or standard
- All electricals may be furnished in either explosion-proof or standard
as required by the application and local ordinances
- Base Cabinets - Standard cupboard cabinet
- Acid storage cabinet with composition stone lining (Vented doors are optional.)
- Pipe space filler panels
- Safety Guard Low Face Velocity Alarm
- Complied with OSHA regulations
- Factory installed and wired
